Starting this week, smokers will be asked to refrain from using Tobacco products at the Oswego Farmers’ market. The Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County, with the support of the city of Oswego, the Oswego County Health Department and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, announced the market will be a tobacco-free event starting Aug. 25.

There is no property tax increase. However, the sewer fee will take a big jump as the city looks to make the water and sewer service self-sufficient in 2012 as mandated under the consent decree.
The Oswego County Health Department postponed its plans to spray an area of central Oswego County today (Aug. 22) because of weather conditions. Weather permitting, the department will resume aerial spraying Tuesday evening, Aug. 23.
Hannibal’s interim Superintendent of Schools believes the district will soon be “in good shape” with the state’s recommendations to fix problems found in an audit.
The audit from the Office of the State Comptroller asked two questions: Did the district have procedures to make sure it was buying goods and services in the least expensive way, and did it have adequate control of its fuel inventories?
Both answers came back: No.

Weather permitting, the department will resume aerial spraying Monday evening, Aug. 22. In order for spraying to be effective, foliage needs to be relatively dry and the weather should be rain-free for at least 30 minutes after the pesticide is applied.
