Weather Notebook For March 10, 2011
According to Fulton’s weather observer, 0.4-inch of snow fell on March 9. It started about 10 p.m. Wednesday and then shortly after midnight turned to rain and freezing rain. Total snowfall for March now stands at 3.7 inches.
Proposed NYS Program Grant May Hurt Local Youth Bureau Programming
At Thursday’s meeting, the Oswego County Legislature will ask the state to reconsider instituting a program that would be detrimental to upstate youth. “Youth Bureau funding would be eliminated in many counties, which would promote inequities in prevention and positive youth development services across the state. It is economically not prudent to only support youth when they are at the doorstep of the child welfare and/or the juvenile justice system,” the director of the local Youth Bureau said.
Fishermen Urged to use Caution on Salmon River Thursday
Patricia Egan, Director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, has issued an advisory for fishermen on the Salmon River due to high water conditions.
Oswego Man Stopped For Using Cell Phone While Driving Facing Drug Charges
The driver was stopped at West Fifth and Albany streets for aallegedly utilizing a cellular telephone while operating the vehicle. Further investigation reportedly discovered marijuana inside the vehicle; with more at his residence.
United Way Honors Its Life Blood – Volunteers
Volunteers are the life blood of the United Way, usually toiling away behind the scenes. However, they were center stage Wednesday at the organization’s annual meeting. Melanie Trexler, executive director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, gave a heart-felt thank you to all the dedicated individuals who joined together to make the 2010 – 2011 United Way campaign a success. They just passed 90% of their goal and there is still plenty of time left for you to contribute.
Oswego Man Sent to Prison for Auburn ‘Ponzi Scheme’
The Citizen of Auburn reports that Jamell Morgan, 22, of 2081 County Route 1, Lot 9, Oswego is headed to prison for up to eight years.
