H. Lee White Museum, NOAA, City, County Of Oswego Commemorate “Getaway Gertie”

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum recently joined Oswego County, the City of Oswego and the proposed Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council to host the “Getaway Gertie” commemoration on June 24. The event served as a public tribute to the lost crew of a B-24 Liberator bomber believed to have crashed into Lake Ontario during World War II training exercises. The four-engine bomber has never been found and was last heard flying low over the eastern shore of Great Lake Ontario during a snowstorm in February 1944.

The New York State Department Of Labor Encourages Summer Programs To Help Young New Yorkers Explore Careers With Career Jumpstart!

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) is encouraging summer youth programs statewide to incorporate Career Jumpstart! into their curriculums to help prepare young people for success after high school. NYSDOL and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) launched the pilot program in the summer of 2021 in partnership with faith-based organizations in the New York City area. As part of the program, participants were given the opportunity to explore career options and develop plans for their futures. Early career development helps young New Yorkers make informed career choices, resulting in lower student debt, more fulfilling careers, self-sufficient lifestyles, and a skilled workforce for our robust economy.

Housing Plans For Fulton’s Former Nestle Building #30 On Hold

A sigh of relief was felt throughout the packed Common Council Chambers Tuesday evening; Fulton residents happy to hear of a low-income housing plan, slated to be built at the former Nestle Chocolate Factory building No. 30 site, had been blocked. The future of the low-income apartment complex had been thwarted due to a zoning technicality; an announcement made by Fulton Mayor Deanna Michaels during the July 5 Fulton Common Council meeting.

The New York State Department Of Labor Announces Strengthened Labor Law Prohibiting Mandatory Overtime For Nurses Is In Effect

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) today announced that an update to the Labor Law restricting mandatory overtime for nurses is now in effect. Under the law, health care employers are prohibited from requiring nurses to work more than their regularly scheduled hours except under limited circumstances, including a health care disaster, a declaration of emergency, or when required for safe patient care such as during an unforeseen emergency or an ongoing medical or surgical procedure.
