Gov. Paterson: State Is Out Of Money; He Withholds Payments to Local Governments, Schools

He announced he will withhold $750 million in payments to school districts, local governments and social services agencies. Paterson said these were not cuts; the state is going to hold the money longer, to make sure it has cash on hand to pay its bills.

Fulton Schools Getting Lawyers Involved As Errors May Force Changes To Construction Project

The Fulton City School District is getting its lawyers involved to see if it can get back some of the money lost to errors in its district-wide construction project.

Superintendent Bill Lynch revealed this week that he has asked for legal opinions as members of the Board of Education expressed dissatisfaction with the cost of the mistakes and the problems those mistakes have caused.

The 60′ X 1,028′ property, adjacent to Wal-Mart, runs northwesterly from 104 to the city so that a new city street can be dedicated, which will foster economic development and improve traffic patterns and safety in the area, according to the resolution. The legislature will reconvene at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 and hold a public hearing on the budget as well.

Hannibal Board Balks At Cost Of Adjacent Land, Possibility Of Asbestos

Hannibal’s Board of Education wants to know more before it will even consider buying a piece of land that’s adjacent to the district’s high school property, but what they learned Wednesday night raised several red flags. 1045 Auburn St. is for sale.  It’s assessed at $47,000.  The property owner, the estate of Mary Blanchard, owes $13,000 in back taxes to the county, which may soon act to put the property up for tax auction.  And the estate wants to sell the property for $65,000.
