Scene Around Town: Marching Bucs Prepping “The Search”

The OHS Marching Buccaneers have begun practice for the 2009 Audio-Visual Field Band season. This year’s show is titled “The Search”. The 2009 season marks the 36th consecutive year of competition for the Marching Bucs.

Conservatives To Meet In Brewerton To Pick Congressional Candidate

Conservative Party members will soon carry out their threat to repudiate the Republican Party’s pick for Congress. They’ll meet next week in Brewerton to make their choice.

The seat that includes Oswego County will soon be open. The U.S. Senate is expected to vote as soon as this week to confirm current Congressman John McHugh of Pierrepont Manor as President Obama’s new Secretary of the Army.

Community Remembers Rosemary Nesbitt

UPDATED – I learned a great deal from Rosemary Nesbitt. And, the education didn’t cease over the course of more than three decades since I left the classroom. Mrs. Nesbitt passed away peacefully on Sunday, with her family by her side. She was a Distinguished Teaching professor at SUNY Oswego, where she will be fondly remembered as an inspiring educator.

The woman who brought history alive in Oswego for decades has died.

Rosemary Nesbitt died Sunday, 84 years old, ending a life of documenting Oswego’s history and spreading those stories to others through theater, books and talks.

Witnesses Describe Maxwell Home, Erin’s Last Days

The firefighter who tried to save Erin Maxwell’s life described a home so foul that she ran outside and threw up, then went home and asked her husband to burn her clothes.

Debra Denery, president of the Palermo Fire Department, was the key witness on Saturday in the trial of Lynn and Lindsey Maxwell, Erin’s parents, who are not charged in Erin’s death but with misdemeanor counts of child endangerment for the conditions of the house Erin lived in.  Erin’s step-brother, Alan Jones, will be tried in September for what police say was Erin’s sexual assault and murder.
