McHugh’s Confirmation This Week May Kickstart Congressional Race Here
The race to become the area’s Congressman may geet started sooner than expected.
The U.S. Senate’s Armed Services Committee has set this Thursday as the date for a confirmation hearing for John McHugh to become President Obama’s Secretary of the Army. McHugh is a member of Congress serving the 23rd Congressional District. Oswego County is one of the 11 counties in the sprawling district, which is larger than some states.

Police allege he had engaged in what they said were “numerous acts of sexual conduct” with a child 10 years old or younger. The incidents happened between July, 2007 and Spring, 2009, according to police.
Harborfest 2009 Receives Positive Grade
Tom Van Schaack describes his first Harborfest as a positive thing. “My first Harborfest was nothing but positive,” the new executive director said Sunday afternoon. Rain showers hampered some of the activities. However, most everybody took the rain in stride and laughed it off. “I need a bar of soap so I can take a bath,” quipped Joe Gunther during Sunday afternoon’s downpour.
Children’s Parade Draws More Than 1,000
An estimated 1,500 youngsters and their families took part in Friday’s annual Children’s Parade. The fun continues today (July 25) at Harborfest – highlighted by the fireworks spectacular.
