Mayor Delivers Proposed Budget Message
The property tax rate will stay the same next year under the mayor’s tentative spending plan. However, the sewer fee would triple from $26 per quarter to $78 per quarter.

Work Begins On Kenney Middle School Roof in Hannibal
Portions of the roof at the Kenney Middle School will be replaced. The first portion of the roof to be replaced is a small section towards the north end. This section does not require any asbestos abatement and will take one week to accomplish.

Community Remembers Rosemary Nesbitt
UPDATED – I learned a great deal from Rosemary Nesbitt. And, the education didn’t cease over the course of more than three decades since I left the classroom. Mrs. Nesbitt passed away peacefully on Sunday, with her family by her side. She was a Distinguished Teaching professor at SUNY Oswego, where she will be fondly remembered as an inspiring educator.

Oswego’s Historian Dies: Rosemary Nesbitt, 84
The woman who brought history alive in Oswego for decades has died.
Rosemary Nesbitt died Sunday, 84 years old, ending a life of documenting Oswego’s history and spreading those stories to others through theater, books and talks.

Hastings Crash Kills Motorcycle’s Driver
A car and motorcycle collided on Route 11 in Hastings this morning. The motorcycle’s driver was killed.
The crash happened at about 7:20 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 11 and Hastings Transfer Station Rd. in Hastings.

Rosemary S. Nesbitt, 84, 08/02/2009
Rosemary S. Nesbitt, 84 of Oswego, passed away peacefully on Sunday Aug. 2, 2009, with her family by her side. She was born on Oct. 12, 1924, in Baldwinsville. In 1959, Mrs. Nesbitt adopted Oswego as her home, and worked tirelessly to bring to life the rich history of the Oswego area.

Witnesses Describe Maxwell Home, Erin’s Last Days
The firefighter who tried to save Erin Maxwell’s life described a home so foul that she ran outside and threw up, then went home and asked her husband to burn her clothes.
Debra Denery, president of the Palermo Fire Department, was the key witness on Saturday in the trial of Lynn and Lindsey Maxwell, Erin’s parents, who are not charged in Erin’s death but with misdemeanor counts of child endangerment for the conditions of the house Erin lived in. Erin’s step-brother, Alan Jones, will be tried in September for what police say was Erin’s sexual assault and murder.

July 2009 Was Cooler But Not As Wet As Usual
July goes into the record book cooler, but not as wet as you may think. The average temperature last month was 67.2 degrees, which is 3.6 degrees cooler than normal. Total precipitation for the month was 2.82 inches. That is 0.21-inch below average.

OHS Student Delves In Life Into DC
Mary Caroline Losurdo recently returned from the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. The 10-day program offered outstanding high school students from across the United States the opportunity to take part in a unique leadership development conference in our nation’s capital. An honors student, Mary will be a senior this fall at OHS.
