Oswego County Legislature Approves Additional Funds, Staffing For DSS
Legislators approved accepting a $500,000 state grant for DSS. The money will be used for improving supervisory practices, increasing staff and enhanced and training.

Legislators approved accepting a $500,000 state grant for DSS. The money will be used for improving supervisory practices, increasing staff and enhanced and training.
The increase was recommended by the authors of a study from Cornell University of the county’s Social Services department in the wake of the death of 11 year old Erin Maxwell of Palermo.
There’s no word yet on what caused a house fire in Volney Wednesday.
The home at 1508 County Route 57 was destroyed by fire late in the afternoon. The one-family home is owned by Sandra Audas, according to the county’s online property tax database.
No injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Well, that didn’t take long.
At 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Governor David Paterson appointed a Lieutenant Governor in an attempt to end the two-party standoff in the State Senate.
By 1:00 a.m., a judge blocked the appointment.
The ranks of Oswego County’s Youth Court could swell by nearly two dozen soon. Teens from across the county are taking part in YC training this week. Youth Court is a recognized community diversion program aimed at keeping young offenders out of Family Court.
