Northeast Biofuels Experiencing Production Delays; Addressing Performance
Ethanol production is at a temporary standstill at Northeast Biofuels as the company works out performance-related issues at the plant with its contractor, Lurgi PSI, Inc. The plant has experienced several production outages since the initial startup, according to plant manager Brian Roach. The most recent outage started Thursday.
School Board Split Over New Position
By a 5-2 vote Tuesday night the Oswego school board appointed Linda Doty to the recently created position of director of grants and partnerships. Opponents say now is not the time to be adding positions. Proponents say the position will bring in more funds than is spent on the salary.
County Officials Watch For State Budget Changes
Oswego County municipal leaders are keeping their eyes on the state today, watching for potential changes to the state budget and the affects those changes could have on the county’s bottom line for 2009. According to County Administrator Phil Church, the budget deficit at the state level is making it difficult for counties to seal their own spending plans with confidence.
Oswego County ‘Adopts’ A Platoon
Oswego County has joined the effort to bringing support and encouragement for soldiers overseas. Donna Scanlon, program coordinator for Community Development Programs in Oswego County, explained that the county has officially “adopted†a platoon and will send monthly care packages to an Army platoon that is stationed in Afghanistan.

After a year’s stay in the southern desert of Afghanistan, Capt. Carl Close, 92nd Logistic Readiness officer, returned home to his wife a combat-experienced Airman. But on Monday afternoon, Oct. 6, Captain Close was recognized in front of family and peers for his outstanding accomplishments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with a Bronze Star medal, signifying his achievements during deployment.
