Fourth Annual ‘Play for Bray’ Tournament: August 4 and 5

Brayden Munger of Minetto, a seven-year-old cancer patient, is nearing the end of his treatment. However, his generosity is infinite as he plans on using an annual fundraiser to purchase items for Golisano Children’s hospital and Upstate Children’s Cancer Center’s wish lists. “Brayden’s end to treatments are right around the corner, but his desire to help other children and families in his position is so very strong,” his aunt, Crystal Bracy said. The fourth annual “Play for Bray Volleyball Tournament” located at Cheap Seats Sports Bar and Grille, 6 Hillside Ave. in Oswego, will use 100 percent of all proceeds to purchase wish list items for children and families undering hospital stays for cancer treatment.

While the Trump administration’s Secretary of Energy Rick Perry is at the FitzPatrick nuclear plant in Scriba today (Aug. 1) after saying it’s time to “make nuclear energy cool again,” New York environmental and consumer groups are calling on New York Governor Cuomo to reverse the decision, made exactly two years ago today, to force New York ratepayers, even those who opt into 100% renewables, to subsidize nuke plants such as FitzPatrick.

University Police Makes Motor Vehicle Felony Arrest

According to a press release today (August 1), Mary Elizabeth Castillo, 47, of Merced, California, was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous DWI conviction and with aggravated DWI for suspected driving while intoxicated and having passengers in the car younger than the age of 16, both Class E felonies.

College Accepts Gift Of James Gale Tyler Painting, 3rd In Its Collection

An East Amherst man moving to Florida full time has donated to SUNY Oswego the college’s third painting by famed marine painter James Gale Tyler, namesake of Tyler Hall and the Tyler Art Gallery on the main campus. The other paintings by Tyler, who was born in Oswego in 1855, came to the college in 1967, thanks to a gift from Delta Kappa Kappa Fraternity, and in 1992 from the estate of Joseph Riley.

Fulton Footpaths Applies for Construction Grant

Fulton Footpaths, the volunteer committee working to create a system of multi-use heritage trails throughout the city of Fulton, has applied for a state-funded grant for the first phase of trail construction. Submitted to the NYS Department of State, the application for funding is to cover costs derived from a feasibility study to construct two out of eight total trails. The grant would fund up to $900,000 for construction work- a monetary value figured from a feasibility study completed by Syracuse-based Environmental Design and Research (EDR) that was secured through prior grant funding. The first construction grant will target the Pathfinder Canal Towpath Trail (four miles) and the Canalview Bridge Walk Trail (1.8 miles.)

At about 9 this morning (Saturday, July 28), Oswego Police were dispatched to a call of a male who could be heard yelling in the area of East Second Street near Hubbard Street. Oswego Police arrived on-scene and tracked the subject to the bank of the Oswego River near Lock 7. The subject was located in the river.

Bubis Pleads Guilty To Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment

On Friday (July 27), Gary Bubis Jr. pleaded guilty to Assault 2nd and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st in Oswego County Supreme Court before the Hon. James McCarthy. Those were the two most serious counts in the Indictment against Bubis stemming from abuse allegations that occurred in the town of Albion in 2017.
