Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today (June 6) announced that more than $43.8 million will be awarded to support cancer prevention and early detection programs statewide over the next five years. Among the programs are two which impact Oswego County residents.

The city of Oswego Dog Park was a project Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow announced in his 2018 State of the City Address as a new public amenity to the Oswego community as the city works towards becoming a more attractive community for people to live, work and play.
The Fulton Police Department held its annual Bike Rodeo to give away free helmets and promote bike safety. Each year, roughly 100 or more children participate in the free event, said Lieutenant Ralph McCann. The event allowed children to complete a bicycle safety obstacle course alongside a Fulton PD Bike Patrol Officer to learn the rules of the road and safe practices while bicycling.
The sound of dozens of motorcycles echoed through Fulton as the ARISE Ride for Ramps fundraiser celebrated its 10th year at Lakeview Lanes. A fundraiser for the Oswego County Ramp Program, Saturday’s (June 2) event began with a four-hour motorcycle ride and followed up with food, music, and fun. “This is a great event because it gives people access to their community. It gives people access to their independence. And we couldn’t do it without all of you,” Tania Anderson, CEO of ARISE told the bikers before the head out on their ride.
Robert Corradino, president of the Common Council, requested to hire the Bonadio Group of Pittsford, NY, to do an IT assessment of the city’s technology infrastructure, which will include the phones systems to provide recommendations of improving it.
The Port City’s annual Bemelmans Festival wrapped up over the weekend at the Fort Ontario Complex. The festival celebrated the 1917 deployment of Ludwig Bemelmans, author of the Madeline books, as a Private at Fort Ontario.
An Oswego man is behind bars following a stabbing incident on Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Joshua J. Johnston, 26, of 2081 County Route 1, Lot 4, Oswego, on Sunday (June 3) at 1:40 p.m.
Fulton city officials came together to discuss a final application submitted to the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council in the hopes of being the $10 million winner of the third round of Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) funding from Governor Cuomo. Having applied for the past two years, city officials are confident that this application is capable of winning. Joe Fiumara, the Director of Fulton’s Community Development Agency said the application is, “the best application we’ve put together so far without a doubt.”
