Sheriff Todd To Step Down, Endorses Undersheriff

Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd’s daughter read a letter at the county GOP Committee meeting recently saying that he isn’t running for re-election. However, she noted that he intends to finish out his term in office. In his letter to the committee, the sheriff said he supports Undersheriff Gene Sullivan as his successor.

Syracuse Company Eyes Takeover Of Oswego Softball Complex

Committee members OK’d City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli’s request to enter into a sports management contract with Champions Events in Syracuse for the operation and management of the Legends Fields commencing with the 2018 softball season. The company proposes to refurbish the sports diamonds as well as repair the buildings at the complex. Moreover, they will organize softball leagues and provide a facility manager to oversee daily operations.

Whaley Pleads Guilty In Albion Abuse Case

On Monday (March 19) morning, Shawn Whaley, 24, appeared before the Hon. James McCarthy, Oswego County Supreme Court, and pleaded guilty to the entire indictment that was filed against him. Whaley, whose jury trial was scheduled to begin Monday, pleaded guilty to 13 separate offenses, including six felonies that occurred in the town of Albion during the summer of 2017.

AG Schneiderman, Hundreds of Advocates Rally for Early Voting

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, New York City elected officials, unions and grassroots organizations rallied at Foley Square to urge the New York State legislature to include early voting in the state budget due April 1. Early voting would allow eligible voters to cast ballots in-person days, sometimes weeks, before an election. Currently, 37 states already have some form of early voting, leaving New York as one of only 13 states without any means to vote early except via absentee ballot.
