Fulton Board of Education Solicits Letters of Interest For Vacant Seat

Paula Hayden resigned from her position as a board member in December 2017. Since then, the remaining six board members have grappled with how to move forward in handling the vacant seat. They were split in deciding between leaving the seat vacant and appointing a replacement. At Tuesday’s (Jan 9) regular meeting, the six remaining members continued to debate the situation. Ultimately, the board settled at a decision to solicit letters of interest from anyone interested that also fits the necessary criteria. The board will act on an appointment at the next board meeting on Tuesday, Jan 23.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Officially Welcomes Fulton ALDI Store

A plentiful crowd filled the area’s newest ALDI store as a ribbon cutting ceremony officially welcomed the international grocery chain to Fulton. One of more than 1,600 ALDI stores throughout the United States, the Fulton store located at 555 S. Fourth St. boasts a fresh, modern look with priority on providing quality, affordable products to shoppers. Mayor Ronald Woodward welcomed ALDI to Fulton, a project that was “a long time coming” before store manager, Todd Moore cut the ribbon and declared the store officially open. “I feel relieved, glad, and now I’m looking forward to developing the remaining 22 acres of that site and I think Aldi will be a great draw for others,” Mayor Woodward told Oswego County Today.

Flu Season Arrived Early But Not As Bad As Other Areas

The flu arrived in Central New York early and the numbers are high this year, according to Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. The county has seen an increased number of lab confirmed flu cases compared with the same time last season, Huang told Oswego County Today. So far this flu season, Oswego Health is not experiencing the number of flu cases that its neighboring counties are encountering, an OH spokesperson pointed out.

Brouse, Clark Remembered for Their Service to Oswego County Students

Two members of the CiTi Board of Education representing two separate Oswego County school districts have died within one week of each other. Janice Clark, 83, of Mexico passed away December 29, 2017, and Casey Brouse, 51, of Parish, passed away January 4, 2018. Clark was an active member of both the Mexico Central School District Board of Education as well as the CiTi Board of Education at the time of her passing. Brouse was president of the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Board of Education as well as a member of the CiTi Board of Education at the time of his passing.
