State Police in Hastings are investigating a criminal mischief that occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 29, at the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery located at 285 State Route 69a in the town of Parish. The investigation has revealed that a vehicle believed to possibly be a 2002 dodge ram pickup truck struck multiple head stones

Convicted Sex Abuser Sentenced To Prison

Today (Oct. 30), 25-year-old Marquis Andrews of Oswego was sentenced seven years in state prison and 10 years post-release supervision upon his felony convictions for two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. He was also sentenced to one year for two separate misdemeanor counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree. Prosecutors alleged that Andrews subjected a female child to unwanted sexual contact on two occasions during the Summer and Fall of 2016. The victim was 12-years-old during the first incident and had turned 13 years old by the second incident.

Human Pink Ribbon Raises Awareness For Breast Cancer

Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program brought together health providers, cancer survivors, local support programs, and members of the community to raise awareness of cancer screening opportunities to help save lives. The pink ribbon event was the highlight of an even bigger awareness campaign throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hosted by Coordinator of OCO’s Cancer Services Program, Carolyn Handville, dozens of guests wore pink and formed a giant human ribbon to spotlight breast cancer awareness for the eighth annual event.

Palermo Man Killed In Motorcycle Accident

At about 7:19 a.m. today (Oct. 27), the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office along with the town of New Haven Fire/Rescue and McFee Ambulance were called to the scene of a fatal motor cycle accident on County Route 35 about one mile south of County Route 64 in New Haven. Christopher Berg, of Palermo, was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on County Route 35 when he left the roadway on the west shoulder and struck a utility pole.

Poverty, Opioid Crisis Go Hand In Hand, Says Oswego Mayor

In order to fight the importation, selling and usage of opioids in the Port City, the poverty crisis must be fought as well, said Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow. “We are trying to implement programs that will better position people from the start,” Barlow said. “If people are on the right track and feel good about themselves and have children, they’re taking the children to school, they’re going to work, they’re less likely to fall into that trap.” In Oswego City, 29 percent of people live in poverty, according to a 2017 Oswego needs assessment done by consultants at CGR Inc. The assessment was part of the Learn, Identify, Focus and Transform Oswego anti-poverty program established by the city and Oswego County Opportunities.

Two charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child

The New York State Police in Pulaski announce the arrest of two men, one an Oswego County Legislator, 51-year-old Shawn P. Doyle of 85 Lake St., Pulaski, and 73-year-old John James Maroney of 185 Leavitt Road, New Haven. The investigation commenced when the parents of a 15-year-old reported what they believed was an inappropriate relationship between their son and Doyle and Maroney.
