Mayor Billy Barlow has announced over the next two weeks the Oswego City Code Enforcement Office and the Oswego City Police Department will team up to conduct a “code enforcement sweep” on the west side of the city from State Route 104 to Lake Street in the First and Third wards. The sweep comes just as the spring college semester concludes and students begin to move out of their homes and apartments.

Historic downtown Oswego may have seen better days, but the mayor has a vision for the revitalization of its future. “We have a downtown that is rather dense,” Oswego Mayor William Barlow said. “We have some strong buildings that just need a little help. We have buildings that need to be renovated and vacant lots that need to be developed.” Some of these areas are being developed currently from different individuals and privately owned businesses.

Public Hearing Set On Proposed PFDs Local Law

The public will get its chance to wade in on a proposed local law requiring people in designated areas of the Oswego River to wear personal flotation devices. At Monday’s Common Council meeting, a public hearing was set for May 22 at 7:10 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The purpose of the proposed law is to promote water safety, explained Council Vice President John Gosek, the sponsor of the proposal.

ALDI Confirms Fulton Store Will Prevail Despite Contractor Abandoning Demolition

A representative of the global supermarket chain, Aldi, has confirmed that the impending store location in Fulton will prevail despite the city’s demolition contractor backing out of the commitment to demolish the former Nestles site in its entirety. “We will still pursue the Fulton, NY location with plans for a grand opening in late fall,” said Aldi representative Aaron Sumida, Tully Division Vice President.
