Fulton Block Builders Is Now Accepting Applications for the 2017 Block Challenge

The Fulton Block Builders (FBB) has announced details for the 2017 Block Challenge, a program that offers matching funds to each participating home owner up to $1,000 (dollar-for-dollar match) to put towards exterior home improvements. The program encourages and rewards neighborhood groups to work together in an effort to reinvest in their own communities. Block Challenge Grant, Pre-Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2017. Look to see if your neighborhood is in one of the Target Areas.

Gary Thibodeau’s Quest For New Trial Continues

Gary Thibodeau’s request to have his conviction overturned and receive a new trial was heard this morning (Feb. 27) in an Appeals Court. Thibodeau was convicted in 1995 of kidnapping Heidi Allen from the convenience store she was working at on Easter Sunday morning in 1994. Two years ago, a judge denied his request.

Tobacco Free Network, Reality Check Youth Advocates Met with State Lawmakers on Tobacco

New York State Tobacco Control Programs have been proven to reduce youth smoking and help current smokers quit, which saves lives and millions of state tax dollars. However, higher rates of smoking persist among individuals with less than a high school education (22.4%), income less than $25,000 a year (22.2%) and those with poor mental health (27.2%).
