The second victim of the fire has now been positively identified by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office as 50-year-old Verna Nicholas of 150 Crim Road. The cause appears to be an electrical event that occurred near the doorway of the bedroom which prevented the couple from exiting the home.
Councilors took a step toward having paperless meetings Tuesday night. Councilor Robert Corradino requested authorization for Mayor Billy Barlow to enter into an agreement with NovusAgenda for the purchase of its paperless agenda software. The Administrative Services Committee gave a favorable recommendation.
Recently a group made up of the WRVO news director and SUNY Oswego communication studies faculty members discussed ways to identify what is fake news and how to stem the flow of fake news in today’s social media world. The onus is on the “consumer,” according to the panel. If an article seems to be too good to be true, too crazy to be true than it probably isn’t true, they said.
State Police in Fulton arrested Patrick J. Quinn, 30, from 4230 Black Oak Circle in Liverpool, for Aggravated DWI and Reckless Driving, both unclassified misdemeanors. On Sunday, February 19, State Police were dispatched, by Oswego County 911, to Route 481 near the Onondaga County line for a reported gray Ford Fusion traveling northbound in the southbound lane.

At about 8:47 a.m. today (Feb. 19), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fire on Crim Road in Parish. The caller stated that there was a man yelling from a window that he and his wife were trapped inside. Members arrived on the scene and attempted entry into the residence but were unsuccessful due to heavy smoke and flames. The male victim has been identified, the female victim hasn’t. The investigation is continuing.
Sullivan based State Police charged an Oswego man with DWAI-drugs after his vehicle was observed stuck in a ditch by a passing trooper Thursday evening in Kirkville.
As part of their efforts to make the penal law more responsive and realistic, Assemblymen Bob Oaks, Will Barclay and Senator Pattie Ritchie have introduced legislation (Assembly bill 5268 and Senate bill 4022) that would add a new section of law that creates the Class E felony crime of aggravated assault in the third degree. The impetus for this law was an assault on a female bartender in Oswego Town in July of 2016.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer today (Feb. 17) called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reverse its decision to remove inspection reports on animal facilities and related animal cruelty information from its website. The USDA annually inspects approximately 9,000 licensed facilities including dog and cat breeding facilities, laboratories and more.
The Zonta Club of Oswego will be hosting a celebration of International Women’s Day at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, 179 County Route 64 in Mexico on March 5 from 1-4 p.m. Zonta has planned an interactive program for women and girls age 10 and up that promises an afternoon of entertainment, learning and fun.
