Last Call for Heroes! Shavees Needed For St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego

The 2017 St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego is less than three weeks away, and this year the numbers of volunteer “shavees” is down. Event organizer Dan Witmer wants to make one last call for volunteers to “brave the shave” and help raise money for life-saving childhood cancer research. The Laker lacrosse team arranged a ‘St. Baldrick’s Night’ at YoBerry for Thursday, March 9, and another ‘St. Baldrick’s Night’ at Fajita Grill on Monday, March 20.

Route 48 To Be Closed From Burden Drive to Munn Street

All motorists and residents are advised that State Route 48 from Burden Drive to Munn Street will be closed to through traffic, effective Wednesday, and continuing for the remainder of March. The closure is in order to facilitate tree removal along the Country Club side of Route 48. This work is in preparation for the road repairs to be made in that area.

Council President: Talk To Us, Not Social Media, To Solve Problems

Members of the Common Council have taken exception to comments made on social media regarding requests for certain special events. Council President Eric VanBuren spoke briefly prior to the start of Monday’s committee meetings regarding issues some people have with the council’s special events policy. “You can take whatever stance you like on social media,” he said, adding that if you have a problem with the council – come to the council and discuss things.

Most Rev. James Moynihan, Retired Bishop Of Syracuse, Dies at age 84

Most Rev. James M. Moynihan, the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Syracuse died on Monday March 6, 2017, at the age of 84. A native of Rochester, NY, Bishop Moynihan served as bishop for 14 years. “Today, we all join in mourning the death of Most Rev. James M. Moynihan who served as the 9th bishop of Syracuse from 1995-2009. In the 84th year of his life and the 60th year of his priesthood, the Lord has called Bishop Moynihan to Himself,” Bishop Robert Cunningham said.
