Fulton Savings Bank Makes $10,000 Donation to Fulton Block Builders

Gary Thibodeau’s request to have his conviction overturned and receive a new trial was heard this morning (Feb. 27) in an Appeals Court. Thibodeau was convicted in 1995 of kidnapping Heidi Allen from the convenience store she was working at on Easter Sunday morning in 1994. Two years ago, a judge denied his request.
Oswego County Legislator Terry Wilbur, District 21, Hannibal, was recently honored by the New York State Association of Counties for graduating from the NYSAC County Government Institute. The ceremony was held at the NYSAC Legislative Conference in Albany.
New York State Tobacco Control Programs have been proven to reduce youth smoking and help current smokers quit, which saves lives and millions of state tax dollars. However, higher rates of smoking persist among individuals with less than a high school education (22.4%), income less than $25,000 a year (22.2%) and those with poor mental health (27.2%).
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Program aims to use Fulton’s abundant waterfront along the Oswego River and Lake Neatahwanta to attract visitors and residents as well as spur economic growth and water related commerce. A second public meeting is scheduled to be held Tuesday, February 28 in the Fulton Municipal Building located at 141 S. First St. beginning at 6 p.m.
Nearly 50 children crowded into the ballroom at Bridie Manor Friday for a kids’ paint and pizza night. The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau along with Oswego Kiwanis Club facilitated the program. Melissa Rose Crafts hosted the event and assisted the children in creating works of art on wood.
The Oswego City School District will be accepting petitions for Board of Education Members for the 2017-18 school budget vote and board member election on May 16. The district will be filling three three-year seats on the board of education during the May election.
The SLA conducted an underage-drinking sting operation visiting 10 different businesses, including drug stores, convenience stores, liquor stores and grocery stores. In total, undercover decoys working under the direct supervision of SLA Beverage Control Investigators were able to purchase alcohol at one of the ten businesses visited, with nine licensees refusing to sell to the minors.
Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today (Feb. 23) endorsed Governor Cuomo’s plan to reduce property taxes by empowering voters to approve locally-designed plans that deliver shared, coordinated services and lower the cost of local government.
Today (February 23), an Oswego County Jury convicted Scott D. Basedow, 61, of Oswego, of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Intoxicated, both felony offenses. Basedow was arrested by the New York State Police in the Town of Mexico on April 19, 2016. His reported BAC was 0.25%.
