Oswego County has been called a gem for tourism by many who visit. Despite a decline in the spring, visitors can experience a variety of unique events. The Iditafat Race, The Fort Ontario Conference in American and Canadian History as well as the Maple Weekend are some of the special events coming up in Oswego County.
“Working with Superintendent (Dr. Dean) Goewey and the Oswego City School District, I am excited to offer this program to be incorporated into the 2016-2017 school year as an educational component to the city’s on-going work being done with regard to reducing the negative impact of illegal drugs in the city of Oswego,” Mayor Barlow said.
Operators returned Entergy Corp.’s FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant to full power operation today following a refueling and maintenance outage that began on January 14. During the outage, more than 1,600 workers replaced about one-third of the reactor’s fuel and upgraded equipment, readying the plant for continued safe and reliable operation.
The second annual Out Run Autism 5K will kick off Autism Awareness month in the Oswego community once again on April 1. The run/walk will take participants through Oswego’s east side, scenic Fort Ontario area on April 1.
The Fulton Block Builders (FBB) has announced details for the 2017 Block Challenge, a program that offers matching funds to each participating home owner up to $1,000 (dollar-for-dollar match) to put towards exterior home improvements. The program encourages and rewards neighborhood groups to work together in an effort to reinvest in their own communities. Block Challenge Grant, Pre-Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2017. Look to see if your neighborhood is in one of the Target Areas.

The New York State Police continue to investigate the 1980 murder of 28-year-old Stephen Forbes. On July 11, 1980, Forbes of the Village Green Apartments in Baldwinsville, was reported missing by family members. Forbes was a business partner in the “Novel -T Shirt Store” on Route 48, Phoenix.
Mayor Billy Barlow is pleased to announce the appointment of Randy Griffin as the next Fire Chief for the City of Oswego Fire Department. Griffin will take over the Oswego Fire Department on March 31. Mayor Barlow also announced that Assistant Fire Chief John Chawgo will serve as acting chief in the interim.
