Fulton Proclaims Oct. 10-16 Knights of Columbus Week

Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and the Fulton Common Council officially proclaimed the week of October 10-16 as Knights of Columbus Week in the city of Fulton. The proclamation comes as Saint Josephs Council, No. 254, Knights of Columbus in Fulton, New York acknowledges its anniversary of 119 years since chartered in August 1, 1987 and Saint Josephs Assembly, No. 748, Knights of Columbus in Fulton, New York acknowledges its anniversary of 106 years since being chartered on August 1, 1910.

Senator Ritchie’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair Draws Big Crowd

State Senator Patty Ritchie hosted a senior health and wellness fair at the Fulton Ice Arena that brought in more than 500 seniors from all over Oswego County. Seniors had the opportunity to speak with dozens of exhibitors, get a free flu shot, and enjoy a free lunch prepared by local CiTi culinary students and free live entertainment.

Oswego Man Gets 2nd Chance At Life Thanks To Generous Organ Donor

Cardiac surgeons at the University of Rochester’s Medicine’s Strong Memorial Hospital recently performed a 200th heart transplant surgery, providing a 48-year-old father a second chance on life. Transplant surgeons performed the six-hour life-saving procedure Aug. 24 and Stephen Waite Jr. of Oswego is recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital.

‘Steel Palace’ Prepares For Super Dirt Week

In one of the more unique “ribbon cutting” ceremonies, two huge dump trucks today (Sept. 20) poured tons of clay on the front stretch of the Oswego Speedway. Even though the clay hadn’t been placed on the front stretch until today’s official “dumping of the clay,” the remainder of the track had its first layers of the new surface laid down recently; while outside the track work continues on new camping areas.

Committee Discusses Rental Fee Hike, Takes No Action

Mayor William Barlow proposed increasing the rental permit fee in the city of Oswego to $150 for a three-year period, five times more expensive than the current $30 fee. It will help support the Code Enforcement Department and improve the quality of life in Oswego’s neighborhoods, he said. However, some detractors argue the opposite will happen. Landlords will not want to spend money on repairs after paying more for the permits, they said. And, it will likely cause landlords to raise the rent they charge, they added.
