“This is a positive step forward that will benefit the health of our employees and residents,” said Legislator John Proud, District 7, chairman of the County Legislature’s Health Committee. “Studies show that smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, and e-cigarettes also emit pollutants. We need to be pro-active about tackling these important health issues.”
The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on August 19 and will end on September 5. New York State Police, county sheriff and municipal law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force.
All FCSD students in third grade through eighth grade had the opportunity to sit for NYS assessments earlier this school year. The results of such testing have recently become available to school officials. For the Fulton City School District specifically, school officials have found reason to celebrate in the broad overview of the results.
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum will host a replica Viking long-ship, the Draken Harald Hårfagre, Aug. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ship will be docked at the north end of the West First Street pier in Oswego. The Draken Harald Hårfagre is a Viking long-ship built in the Nordic style of over-lapping planks and is a reconstruction of the “great ships” that were referred to in Norse sagas.
Now in finishing its eighth year, the Springboard Mural Project is dedicated to the beautification of the river walk at West Linear Park. Community youth paint murals along the river walk, both sharing their art with the community and helping cover up graffiti.
The Fulton Common Council hosted two public hearings at the most recent regular meeting held Tuesday, August 16. In other business, the council approved the sale of two properties obtained by the city through tax foreclosure.
The Fulton Common Council has approved a resolution to allow city officials to apply for state grant funding to combat zombie properties throughout the city.

The Oswego City School District named Kara Shore as the new principal at Leighton Elementary School on Tuesday night. She comes to the Port City from Cicero. She was employed at the Baldwinsville Central School District where she was the principal at VanBuren Elementary school. She begins her duties on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
Mayor William J. Barlow Jr. announced today (Aug. 16) the signing of an Executive Order that orders the immediate end to an overtime practice within the Oswego Fire Department that rewarded the most senior firefighters with overtime in direct violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the city and its firefighter’s union, according to the Mayor’s Office.
