Fulton Police Charge Man With Drug Possession After He Flees in a Vehicle

Today (August 16), a Fulton police officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 300 block of East Broadway. Contact was made with the driver, Scott E. Brien, 45, of Fulton, and while waiting for the response of a computerized check of the driver’s license status the vehicle began to flee at a high rate of speed, police said.

Oswego’s Winter Parking Plan Continues To Evolve

In the middle of one of the hottest, driest summers in Oswego history, the Administrative Services Committee was once again focused on the city’s winter parking policy. For about an hour Monday night councilors and residents discussed concerns and possible solutions to the city winter parking problems. Currently, the plan is “a work in progress.” A final resolution has yet to be proposed.

Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest For Possession Of Marijuana

State Police in Fulton arrested Gregory J. Scerbo, 20, from 13 Powers Drive Fulton, and Steven R. Henri, 20, from 252 Kingdom Road Oswego, NY, both for Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th degree, a class “A” misdemeanor. On August 13, troopers conducted a traffic stop on Second Street in the city of Fulton on a 2008 Pontiac G6 operated by Steven Henri.

Jefferson County Man Arrested Following Short Pursuit in Oswego County

On August 14, at approximately 2 a.m., State Police in Fulton attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta on State Route 48 in the town of Granby when the driver allegedly refused to comply. The driver eventually stopped after three miles of being pursued on State Route 48 in the city of Fulton.

Gov. Cuomo Announces Grants For CNY Water Infrastructure Improvements

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today (Aug. 15) announced $14.6 million in grants to support 12 critical municipal water infrastructure projects in Central New York. These grants are part of the second round of NYS Water Grants funded through the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. Oswego, Phoenix and Constantia will receive funding.

Fulton UPK Program Continues Evolving

The Fulton Universal Pre-Kindergarten program continues to grow and boast success as program and school officials prepare to head into the 2016-2017 school year. Starting in 1999, Fulton UPK enrolled only 78 students in its first year. In most recent years, the enrollment number remains steadily between 150 and 160 students in the UPK program.

Lightning Strike Causes Second Fire In Oswego

Oswego Fire Department personnel were notified at 3:24 p.m. today (Aug. 13) of a building located at 19 E. Cayuga St. struck by lightning. A customer of an adjacent business reported the strike to OFD officials after witnessing it and seeing smoke. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to a non-structural section of the roof.

At 11:35 this morning, Oswego Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 192 E. Eighth St., near Oak Hill Park. Although no injuries were reported, one family is displaced due to the electrical failure and damage to the structure. The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Hundreds Turn Out To Support Oswego Firefighters

Several members of the Oswego Fire Department, along with a couple hundred of their friends, held a public rally outside City Hall on Thursday to raise awareness about the impending cuts to the department and the potential loss of services that may follow. “We are supported here today by not only our members, local firefighters and their families from across Central New York, other unions and members of the public,” John Geraci, president of the Oswego Firefighters’ Association, told Oswego County Today.” They have “a ton of support,” he said indicating the huge crowd in Civic Plaza, adding that there were several pro OFD signs around the city.
