Please Help Bring ‘Hoover’ Home

Recently, someone stole “Hoover” a hand-carved dog from Mexico Point Park. “Hoover” was handcrafted by a local artist and is a valuable piece of art. It is part of a project to show the history and usage of the park over the years. It is so sad that some person or persons can be so selfish and have so little respect for themselves and their community that they would steal a piece of art from their park, park staff said.

Port City Looks To Combat Local Poverty

Mayor William Barlow Jr., is spearheading an effort, in collaboration with the Community Development Office and others, to improve the opportunity for everyone to achieve self-sufficiency and to become financially independent. They are seeking council approval to provide a poverty awareness training through an established program provided by Visions For Change for $1,500 as the first step in raising awareness towards the $25 million Anti-Poverty Program proposed by Governor Cuomo.

‘Stamp’ Your Calendar for Bicentennial Weekend

The Oswego Stamp Club kicks things off on July 2 with an official postal imprint ceremony and reception to mark the 200th anniversary of Oswego County. Mayor Barlow Outlines Port City’s Paving Schedule

“We have an extremely aggressive paving schedule for the next month and I would like to make the residents aware of the road construction and ask for their patience, as we work through the neighborhoods and main roadways,” the mayor said. “We will do our best to notify our residents ahead of time, but please be aware of temporary ‘No Parking’ signs that may appear on side streets and consider alternate routes around the identified road work.”

Dozens Honor ‘America’s First Supermodel’ in New Haven

Dozens of people from all over Upstate New York gathered in New Haven Town Hall recently to honor the late Audrey Munson, best known for being “America’s first supermodel.” Many people may have seen Audrey without even knowing, especially in the NYC area where she is proudly displayed throughout the city in numerous monuments and sculptures including Civic Pride, the second tallest statue in NYC where Munson’s full body sculpture sits at the very top.
