Granby, Fulton Work Together to Complete Dredging

The Fulton Common Council recently authorized the Granby Lake Reclamation Committee to dredge Lake Neatahwanta within city limits. The collaboration needed council approval solely because an outside group will be utilizing their equipment for work within city limits, in which case council permission is required. With the help of Granby Lake Reclamation Committee, city officials are optimistic about the re-opening of Stevenson Beach occurring sooner rather than later.

SUNY Oswego Names Walter Roettger Acting Academic Vice President

SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley announced the appointment of Dr. Walter Roettger as acting provost and vice president for academic affairs. As the college’s chief academic officer, Roettger is responsible for leadership of all instructional and academic programs across the college.

On the morning of May 6, 1814, while the rest of a Royal Navy squadron bombarded Fort Ontario and filled landing boats with troops, the brig Niagara anchored 300 yards from the fort and poured broadsides from heavy guns into two American artillery batteries. Captain James Boyle’s three light field gun crews fired red hot shot at the Niagara and set her on fire three times before being driven off by British bayonets. Tour Commemorates Soldiers Lost in British Attack on May 5, 1814

Superintendent Paul Lear will lead a walking tour of the 1814 Battle of Oswego at Fort Ontario State Historic Site at 7 p.m. May 5. Lear will incorporate new information and insights into the battle gained from his research at the National Archives and other sources. The battlefield walking tour will begin inside the old stone fort and proceed at a slow pace.

Two Parish Brothers Arrested Following Assault On Employer

On April 8, at approximately 8 p.m., State Police responded to a residence in Parish for a report of an assault. The victim reported that his employees William J. Presley Jr., 37, and Matthew M. Presley, 34, of Bangall Road, Parish, had come to pick up their paychecks, and then attacked him following a denial of their request for a pay raise, according to police.

College Student Charged With Unlawful Surveillance

University Police at SUNY Oswego arrested student Gregory Berrios, 18, of New York City, on April 22 on charges of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a class E felony. He is accused of allegedly using a smartphone to record a student taking a shower in Cayuga Hall without that person’s knowledge on April 8.

Fulton Footpaths Collaborates with Local History Experts

Fulton Footpaths, a plan in the works to bring eight heritage trails to the city of Fulton has recently met with a group of local history experts at the Pratt House Museum to gather input on history of the city to be incorporated in the trails. Organized by Brittney Jerred and Marie Mankiewicz, two Fulton residents who are looking to help revitalize the city, Fulton Footpaths is in the very early stages of conception with much planning ahead.
