School Safety Must Be A Top Priority For New York State Lawmakers

Across the nation, we have witnessed school-targeted violence at a rate unlike any we have ever seen in this country. The grief and heartbreak families have been forced to endure as a result of these attacks is unimaginable and it is abundantly clear action is needed now before another tragedy occurs. It is obvious the safety procedures in place must be evaluated and improved to protect students, teachers and staff working in New York schools. This week’s events in Tennessee are yet another horrific reminder of what is at stake.

Legislature Must Fix Serious Flaws Created By ‘Raise The Age’

Earlier this week, I joined with members of the Assembly Minority Conference and district attorneys to call for changes to the state’s criminal justice policy that is clearly compromising public safety. The “Raise the Age” law was passed in the 2017-2018 budget. While it may have been well-intentioned, too many of the components simply are not working.

Assembly Minority Proposes “Raise The Age” Reforms To Increase Accountability And Improve Public Safety

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) and members of the Minority Conference today announced legislation to reform the flawed “Raise the Age” and improve the level of accountability for those who commit violent felony crimes. The Minority Conference held a press conference today in Albany and were joined by district attorneys who have continued to point out the problems with the law since its passage in the 2017-2018 State Budget.

The measures are aimed at increasing transparency, making operations more equitable and procedures more efficient. Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay On The Assembly One-House Budget Resolution

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) today issued the following statement on the Assembly Majority’s One-House Budget Resolution. The resolution proposes to take state spending to $232.9 billion for the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. The proposed increase is $5.9 billion more than what was proposed in Gov. Hochul’s Executive Budget and $11.3 billion more than last year’s enacted state budget.
