After taking the checkered flag in the season opener for Oswego Speedway’s Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super division back in May, Dalton Doyle is once again the championship leader heading into Saturday night’s Grand Prix 35 at the ‘Steel Palace.’
The grandstands will shake and the skies will explode with color when the Fulton Speedway celebrates our nation’s independence this Saturday, presented by NAPA Auto Parts and A-Verdi Storage Containers.
By all accounts, the early start to Oswego Speedway’s 65th anniversary season has been nothing short of spectacular with exciting, tight quarters racing, and last lap heroics becoming a weekly fixture at the popular ‘Steel Palace’ oval. Of the five racing weekends at Oswego so far this season, four of those have seen their finishes in doubt until the very last trip around the 5/8 mile oval.
The summer schedule at Oswego Speedway officially kicks into high gear on July 4 with the Speedway’s annual ‘Christmas in July’ celebration, to go along with extra distance Grand Prix features for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS. Every fan that brings a new and unwrapped toy to the Speedway next Saturday will receive a free hot dog combo meal.
Another field of more than 100 karts took on Oswego Kartway Friday night with young hot shoes Tyler Thompson and Brandon Philips highlighting the night with main event victories. Thompson again dominated the Sr. Blue Clone division for his third consecutive victory of the year behind the wheel of the No. 98T. Philips moved to the Clone Light division full-time in 2015 driving his No. 5 and wasted little time picking up his first career victory.
The Fulton Force 16U Elite travel baseball team finished first in the Darien Lake Championships hosted by Pitch N Hit at the college of GCC. The Force went 5-1 on the weekend losing to the Northtown Nationals 7-2, beating the Springville Shocker 3-2, Bruster’s 6-4, Team New Era 15-0, Grow to Pro 3-2 (Semi) and Buffalo Stampede 10-7 (Finals) to capture the title and bring their record to 7-2.
Larry Wight continued to be as hot as the weather Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway in the Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds winning his third straight 35-lap feature. Due to handicapping, Wight started 18th and quickly made his way to the front of the field moving into second spot by lap 9.
