Lake Ontario’s Native Salmon Return to Oswego County

Back in the early years of the 19th century, Lake Ontario had the greatest population of landlocked Atlantic salmon in the world. So many ran the tributaries each fall to spawn, men could drive horse-drawn wagons into the streams and spear or net a load full. Housewives would wade in up to their knees and catch salmon dinners in their aprons. Although they were capable of overcoming incredible natural obstacles like waterfalls and raging, shallow rapids, they were no match for human progress.

Driver Autographs, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Highlight Weekend Action at Oswego Speedway

Oswego Speedway continues its summer stretch of action Saturday with Driver Autograph and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night presented by JP Jewelers. Saturday’s schedule includes a 50-lap Novelis Supermodified main event as well as a 30-lap Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super feature. The Small Block Supers will revert back to running first on the schedule throughout this weekend’s racing.

Witko Wins Popular Fulton Speedway Modified Feature Holding Off Late Race Challenge From Decker

Every Friday Jim Witko and his wife Barb load up their Big Block Modified from their Clarks-Summit, Pennsylvania home and tow north passing other tracks to compete at the Brewerton and Fulton speedways. Why do they do it? Because they want to compete against the best competition there is. On Saturday at Fulton Witko with his all black car with no sponsorship lettering, took the lead on the opening lap of the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified and dominated until a caution with 6 laps to go that lined-up all the heavy hitters of the division right behind him.
