The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell 87-57 to undefeated New York University in the NYU Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Coles Sports Center.
The championship of the Festival of Lights Bowling Tournament in Niagara Falls has been a desire and goal for the Oswego High School Buccaneers. On Monday, the Bucs competed in the annual holiday event and came away with the championship. Oswego captured the boys’ team title with 6,317 for six games, but had to rally to win.
Port City Roller Derby’s junior league will get 2014 rolling with their “Snow Ball” bout on Jan. 11, in the Oswego YMCA Armory. For the bout featuring two teams of PCRD junior skaters, ages 10 to 17, doors will open at 5 p.m. with action beginning at 6 p.m. in the armory, corner of West First and Utica streets in Oswego. It is the second event of their first full competitive season, a prelude to a Feb. 8 home bout vs. a juniors team from Buffalo’s Queen City league.
Oswego hockey teams along with the girls basketball squads, boys hockey team, bowlers, swimmers and volleyballers were all victorious in recent action.
Richard DeLong of Mexico was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic Team for fall 2013. DeLong, a student at Paul Smith’s College who is a member of the woodsmen’s team, majors in integrative studies. DeLong is a sophomore.

The Oswego High School boys’ varsity basketball team earned a victory on Tuesday while the bowling team had a solid outing, several wrestlers turned in solid performances and jayvee along with modified teams were in action.
The Oswego girls’ varsity hockey team went on a three-day odyssey through the Adirondacks last weekend, playing Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Beekmantown in three consecutive days. The Lady Bucs were victorious in all three contests, raising their overall record to 4-2-1 going into Thursday’s home game against league rival Ithaca.
Janelle Bradish (Massena) of the women’s basketball team and Caty Darling (Oswego) of the women’s hockey team have been named Roos of the Week, as announced on Monday.
