All interested parties can obtain the information packets, including roster, waiver forms and rules from the Department of Public Works located at 114 Mitchell St. between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Oz Roller Derby hosted Oswego’s first renegade roller derby Oct. 19, at the Oswego YMCA Armory. The fast-paced, hard-hitting bout saw Oz Revolution pitted against the Boomtown Renegade Roughnecks team from Binghamton in a tight, close-scoring game, with Boomtown pulling out the win in the final minutes.
Some Oswego High School sports teams are prepping for post season competition while others are winding down the Fall campaign.
The final event of the 2013 racing season at Oswego Kartway will take place Friday at the ‘Bull Ring’ starting at 7:30 p.m. The Kartway finale will feature double heat races for competitors along with main events in all 11 kart divisions that competed during the regular season.
Oswego Speedway’s championship banquet is set for November 2 at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego with five free hotel rooms available for raffle to those who purchase banquet tickets by October 18.
The Oswego varsity football team had the best offensive display in years while the girls volleyball team earned a berth in the golf finals while the varsity soccer team lost to a close rival. In one of the highest scoring games in year the Oswego High School varsity football team rolled to a 56-8 victory at Watertown High School on Friday night.
The Oz Roller Derby will debut the fast-moving, physical sport of co-ed renegade roller derby in the Port City on Saturday at the Oswego YMCA Armory. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the bout beginning at 6 p.m. Renegade roller derby is similar to, yet very different from, most popular versions of roller derby played in upstate New York.
The New York State Outdoor Writers’ Association announced on Sept. 16 at its annual conference, in Lake Placid, that Ray Hrynyk, better known as “Spider Rybaak,” is this year’s recipient of the Pass It On Award. This award is sponsored jointly by NYSOWA and Bass Pro Shops.
The fall sports season is winding down, but there have been several outstanding efforts for Oswego High School athletes.
The (New Hartford) Spartans marched in and conquered Fulton 53-25 on the Raiders’ homecoming on Oct. 4. New Hartford came into this Class A football crossover battle on a three-game win streak, with much credit to their offensive specialist Stephen Tomaino.
