SUNY Oswego inducts four new members into Athletic Hall of Fame

SUNY Oswego's Athletic Hall of Fame recently inducted four alumni who were outstanding athletes at the college. From left are lacrosse and soccer standout Kathryn "Kat" Stead of the class of 2004, wrestling All-American Brian McGann '70 and much-decorated swimmer Anne Sarkissian DeRue '04. Baseball standout Bob Brutsch '71 could not attend the Nov. 2 ceremony.The college officially inducted baseball player Bob Brutsch of the class of 1971, swimmer Anne Sarkissian DeRue ’04, wrestler Brian V. McGann ’70, and lacrosse and soccer player Kathryn “Kat” Stead ’04 during a ceremony Nov. 2 in Sheldon Hall ballroom on campus.  “This year’s honorees represent some of the best athletes in Oswego State’s long athletic history,” said event organizer Laura Pavlus, interim director of alumni and parent relations.

Oswego Speedway 2013 Season Officially Ends With Awards, Hall Of Fame Banquet

The Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego provided an elegant backdrop on Saturday night as a large crowd gathered to honor some of the top 2013 Oswego Speedway achievers from the Novelis Supermodified and PathFinder Bank race divisions. A group of six worthy inductees also entered the Oswego Speedway Mitchell’s Speedway Press Hall of Fame.

Buc Boys’ V-ball Headed to Title Game

The next stop for the Oswego High School boys varsity volleyball team will be the Cicero-North Syracuse High School gymnasium  for the Section III Class AA title match. Oswego  returns to the championship for a rematch of last year’s Section III title game against Baldwinsville. The Bucs captured the semifinal round with a 3-1 nail-biting win over Cicero-North Syracuse.

Port City Roller Derby juniors to start season Nov. 9

Port City Roller Derby’s junior league will start its first full season, and support children in need this holiday season, with a bout on Nov. 9, in the Oswego YMCA Armory. The bout featuring two teams of PCRD junior skaters — ages 10 to 17 — will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the armory, corner of West First and Utica streets in Oswego.

PACS Varsity Girls’ Cross Country season continues at sectional meet

The Pulaski Girls Varsity Cross Country team won the Patriot National Division and will advance to sectionals on November 2 at Jamesville Beach. Pictured, in front, left to right are: Jessica Pastuf, Hanna Greulich, Aleah Laflame, Cassie Horridge, Shelby Sheehan, Hanah Bridges, Megan Jennings, Ruth Clark, and Coach Jack Jennings.Jack Jennings, coach of the PACS Girls Varsity Cross Country team said his team has made great strides this year, with all participants continuing to improve as the season has progressed. The varsity team, made up of girls in grades 9-12 at Pulaski High School, finished the regular season with a record of 6-1 winning the Patriot National Division Championship.
