GRANBY – Michael G. French has announced his candidacy for town of Granby supervisor.
French, a longtime resident of the town, said he is running to bring more transparency and better communication to Town government, as well as working for the betterment of the community.
“One of my goals is to revisit our zoning ordinance. Some residents follow the rules and are punished while others are rewarded for breaking the rules. We need consistency and fairness.”
French also said he’d like to address the abandoned buildings throughout the town that have long been an eyesore and a health and safety hazard issue.
French is no stranger to public service, having represented the town in the County Legislature for four years. During that time, he served on the Infrastructure and Facilities Committee as its chairman and also served on the Building and Grounds Committee.
He has served on the town’s Board of Assessment Review and as Emergency Management Coordinator.
He currently serves as the chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Last year, by proclamation presented by State Senator Patty Ritchie, French was named Granby’s Citizen of the Year for his role in the town’s economic and community development and for the volunteer time and resources he contributed to many local organizations and activities.
French and his wife, Ellen, have four children and seven grandchildren.
A member of the Conservative Party, French will appear on the Conservative, Democrat and Independent lines.
