FULTON, NY – Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program invites you to celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner and a movie on them. Throughout February the Cancer Services Program is offering free clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams and colon cancer screenings to uninsured community members throughout the community. Eligible couples that each complete at least one screening will receive a $25 gift certificate for dinner and two free movie passes to the Oswego Cinema.
“Early detection is the best weapon in the fight against cancer,” said Coordinator of the Cancer Services Program, Carolyn Handville. “What better way to show your concern for those you love than by receiving, and encouraging them to receive, potentially lifesaving cancer screenings.”
According to statistics from the American Cancer Society, in Oswego County 5 individuals die each week of cancer, and another 13 individuals are diagnosed with cancer, additionally, the annual cancer incident rate in Oswego County has increased more than 10%.
The Cancer Services Program is working to raise awareness of these numbers and help combat cancer in Oswego County by encouraging those eligible to receive free breast, cervical and colon cancer screenings.
Funded by the NYS Department of Health and Susan G. Koman for the Cure, OCO’s Cancer Services Program provides free cancer screenings including clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams and colon cancer screenings to community members who are either under-insured or uninsured and 40 years of age and older.
