Hannibal Historical Society Opens Museum

Jane Scruton, President of the Hannibal Historical Society is shown with Terry M. Wilbur, Hannibal’s Oswego County Legislator and Lowell Newvine, Hannibal Town and Village Historian on a recent Saturday as they staffed the Historical Society’s temporary museum in the former Cook’s Jewelers Building on the Village Square in Hannibal. The museum is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features articles, posters and artifacts relating to Hannibal’s History. On July 10, at 9 a.m., as part of its Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Village of Hannibal plans to dig up a time capsule that has been buried in the Village Square since 1960. The contents of the capsule will be displayed at the museum on Saturdays until August 21, when the present contents will be buried, along with items reflecting 2010 Hannibal History.

  1. Great news for Hannibal residents. We now have another way to discover the history and background of our community. With a son that does historic restorations, we are always trying to find more information about the past home designs etc.
