OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Youth Bureau partners with the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and CiTi BOCES to host an Endangered Species Day event at Oswego County’s Independence Trail, located off NYS Rte. 104 and county Route 1A in Scriba. It runs from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
“We’re thankful to our partners at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Friends of Rosamond Gifford Zoo and CiTi BOCES for working with us to clean up Independence Trail on Endangered Species Day,” said Oswego County Youth Bureau Executive Director Brian Chetney. “This event is a reminder that every small act makes a difference in protecting at-risk species and safeguarding delicate ecosystems. We encourage the community to get involved and come out to join us.”
Endangered Species Day is an annual effort to celebrate and learn about threatened and endangered species and take action to protect them. Volunteers will clear debris from Independence Trail and the surrounding lakeshore to help bog turtles and other species thrive in their natural environment. They will also care for nearby pollinator gardens and build or maintain bluebird boxes to support local wildlife.
No experience is needed to join in the effort. The event is open to all who want to enjoy the outdoors, connect with their community and make a difference!
