The Oswego County Historical Society is planning this year’s “Good Old Summertime – A Victorian Picnic”, which will be held Sunday, June 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Richardson-Bates House Museum, 135 E. Third St., in Oswego.

Professional auctioneer Ted Sivers has volunteered to run the picnic highlight “Lunch-in-a-Basket” auction at 2 p.m. So far businesses such as The American Foundry, Canale’s Restaurant, and Kristi’s Restaurant have offered to donate great lunches for the auction. Other groups that will provide lunches include the Oswego County Promotion & Tourism Department staff, and the Historical Society Board of Trustees.

Other fun activities at the event will include family games such as croquet and badminton. Many lovely period songs will be shared with participants so that they will feel even more of the old-fashioned summer spirit.
“It’s always a very enjoyable time for the whole family,” said event chairperson Lyn Patterson. “Besides having a great lunch and playing the games together, it gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about the history of our wonderful community.”

At the picnic there will also be a contest among those who wear the most unique hats. The winner will receive a prize and be thanked in the newspapers after the event. Everyone is encouraged to show their special talent and provide genuine competition!

Also included at the picnic will be a used book and sheet music sale. Many old history books and pieces of older music will add even more joy to the event.

“We really want to thank Ted Sivers and the wonderful singers for joining us at the event,” added Patterson. “I want to thank all of our other volunteers too!”
