MEXICO, NY – Oswego County Opportunities invites community members to join them for an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the dedication of their new Community Service Center.
The new site is the cornerstone of OCO’s Senior Nutrition Services.
Located on Scenic Avenue, OCO’s Community Service Center is housed in a 6,500-square foot building that was donated to OCO in 2007 by William and Gerry Ford of Andover.
OCO has invested more than $1 million to convert the building into a facility that not only serves the agency’s Senior Nutrition Services but ultimately the community as well.
The centerpiece of the site is a brand new, state-of-the-art kitchen that is used to prepare meals for OCO’s Senior Nutrition Services.
The kitchen staff prepares 500 meals each week that are delivered to its eight Senior Dining and Activity Sites throughout Oswego County.
In addition, OCO delivers 17,400 meals each month to homebound seniors.
“This new site has had a tremendously positive impact on our program,†said director of OCO’s Senior Nutrition Services, Amy Roland. “Prior to the opening of our new kitchen in January of this year we were leasing shared kitchen space from Ringgold Fire Department in northern Oswego County. Being able to prepare all of our meals at this convenient location has helped streamline the process and with the new site being located in the center of Oswego County, it makes for fast, efficient delivery of the meals.â€
With the kitchen up and running OCO will soon begin a second phase of renovation that will transform approximately 1,000 square feet of the building that will be used for a variety of community services including: recreation and education activities for youth, support services for children, youth and families, meal service for children and family programs and an access portal for consumers seeking any of OCO’s many services.
“We invite the community to join us on May 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. for our open house and dedication ceremony. We will be offering tours of the facility and free refreshments. There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m.,†said Roland.
OCO’s Senior Nutrition Services oversees eight Dining and Activity Centers where seniors can enjoy a hot, nutritious noontime meal and visit with friends.
These centers are located in Fulton, Pulaski, Oswego, Mexico, Hannibal, Parish, Phoenix and Constantia.
In addition, OCO Senior Nutrition Services administers the Home Delivered Meal Service that is funded in part through Oswego County Office for the Aging.
