OCO’s Education Services Participates in World Book Night

Oswego County Opportunities’ Education Services programs participated in the third World Book Night U.S. on April 23 to help spread the love of reading.

World Book Night promotes reading by providing free books to light or non-readers.

Volunteers known as World Book Givers apply to become a Book Giver identifying their target audience.

The rivers end bookstore in Oswego is the community organizer for the book distribution.

Six staff members from OCO’s Education Services’ Literacy Volunteers and Head Start programs distributed the following books:

The Lighthouse Road; The Tipping Point; Hoot; Pontoon; Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Wait Till Next Year.

Beth Kazel, director of Education Services said, “It’s a rewarding experience sharing the love of reading with someone who is a light or non-reader. Reading opens many doors, reading for pleasure opens the mind.”
