The Burton Ramer Technical Career Center at Oswego County BOCES held its annual Career and Technical Education awards ceremony recently where student achievement awards were presented.

William-bonney-scholarship — <p>The William Bonney Scholarship was awarded to Rebecca Martin during the end of the year awards ceremony for the Burton Ramer Technical Career Center at Oswego County BOCES. During the morning ceremony students were recognized for their induction into the National Technical Honor Society, SkillsUSA participation, perfect attendance, and several program-specific awards.

Students recognized for the Dr. David M. Stern Principal “Most Improved” Award included Joshua Kurowski, Danielle White, Ryan Coe, Ray Switzer, Cody Dolan, Sarah Vincent, Michael Reed, Jay Baxter, Gabrielle Hayes, Jordan LeClaire, Alaney Zawacki, Brittany Foster, Jennifer Allen, Brittany Bolster, and William Hollis.

Eileen-ponto-scholarship — <p>The Eileen Ponto Scholarship was awarded to Tarissa Atkinson, an Oswego County BOCES New Vision Allied Health student from Pulaski. Eileen Ponto was one of the original teachers in the New Vision Health classes at OCB. She retired in 2010. Pictured on the left with Atkinson are her Science teacher Lori Hoyt, and English teacher Linda Knowles, to her right.</p>

Also awarded were scholarships including the Oswego County Association of Educational Secretaries Scholarship given to Sarabeth Bartlett, Fulton; the William Bonney Scholarship presented to Rebecca Martin, Oswego; the John Hort Scholarship to Kelsey Prye, Pulaski; the Eileen Ponto Scholarship to Tarissa Atkinson, Pulaski; and the Dr. Burton Ramer Scholarship to Kristina Miller, Pulaski.

The Dr. Burton Ramer Scholarship was presented by Dr. Ramer’s daughter, Deb Wines, who fondly remembered growing up during the early construction of the current Technical Career Center when her father was the youngest District Superintendent in New York State.

“Dr. Ramer was my dad,” she began, “and he had a great sense of humor, a thirst for knowledge and an inquisitive mind.” She shared a saying that her father often told to her and her brothers when they were growing up: “Through education you can be and do anything you want.”

Awards for the afternoon programs also included NTHS, SkillsUSA participation, Perfect Attendance, Dr. David Stern Principal Awards, High Schools That Work Achievement of Excellence, and program-specific awards.

spike-nolan-award — <p>The Spike Nolan Memorial Award was presented to Tyler Hilton, APW; and Daren Chesnut, Mexico. Pat Nolan was on hand at the Oswego County BOCES CTE awards ceremony to present the Spike Nolan Memorial Award in honor of his father. Recipients of the Dr. David M. Stern Principal “Most Improved” Award included: Maggie Charlebois, Haley Valentine, Brad Hadcock, Katie Fountain, Blake Stott, Anthony Wiley, Paul Ellis, Derek Harris, Jessie McCarty, Kari Bacon, Amariah Frio, Steven DeLisle, Johnathon Woodward, Justin Isgar, Roy Graves, Shane Cooper, and Katie Croucher. Also presented was the Joshua and Jonathan Green Automotive Tech Award given to Randy Preston, Central Square.
