OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego YMCA is pleased to announce the appointment of three individuals to lead Family and Children’s programs.
Darci Michalski has joined YMCA staff as the School Age Childcare director.
She is responsible for the planning and directing of YMCA Summer Camp programming and before and after school care.
“Darci’s experience and enthusiasm has been a valuable asset to our team. She’s just completed a very successful summer camp program and has so many wonderful ideas for the SACC program” said Kerrie Ann Webb, YMCA executive director.
Michalski has years of experience working with children in Oswego County, most recently with the Oswego City School District as a teacher aide.
She has also served as an Occupational Therapy Assistant for Pemberton Associates and as the Job Coach for the Youth Works program with Oswego County BOCES.
Michalski holds a BFA from the State University of New York at Oswego and an AAS as an Occupational Therapy Assistant and certificate in Geriatrics from Maria College in Albany.
“I’m thrilled to continue my career journey as SACC Director at the Oswego,” she said. “The Y’s programs offer endless possibilities for meeting the needs of youth and families and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Joining the Oswego YMCA as Family Director, Amy Murphy brings a wealth of experience and education working with children.
“Amy has fully immersed herself and is dedicated to developing and enhancing family programs at the Y,” Webb said. “She brings a renewed and exciting energy to our organization.”
Murphy holds a Master’s of Science in Literacy Education, Birth-Grade 6, from the State University of New York at Oswego and a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, where she graduated summa cum laude.
She holds certificates in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Middle School Education and Literacy Education.
Most recently, she was a teacher for the Oswego Community Christian School, where taught Kindergarten, grades 7 and 8 and music classes.
She just completed her second year of teaching innovative classes for the Sheldon Institute at the State University of New York at Oswego.
A lifelong advocate for children’s programs and education, Murphy is an excited to join the Y team.
“My vision for family and children’s programs at the Y is a perfect match for the mission of the organization and I welcome new families to come and see all we have to offer,” she said.
For parents who come to the Y for individual and group programs, the Kids Club child care provides an opportunity for children to interact with other children under the care of Y staff.
Pati Wells has recently been promoted to Kids Club Leader.
She is a welcoming and familiar face to so many families at the Y as her career spans nearly 20 years with the organization.
During this time, Wells attended the State University of New York at Oswego, served as the YMCA preschool assistant for six years, Kinder Camp director for seven years and has been in the Kids Club program for the past seven years.
She has a demonstrated caring and nurturing presence with Y kids.
“Miss Pati (as she is affectionately known by so many) is loved by so many at our Y and it is a pleasure to have her lead the staff of our childcare program,” Webb said.
