OSWEGO, NY – The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a program of SUNY Oswego and will hold a volunteer orientation for mature adults (retired or semi-retired) on March 14.

It will take place at 10 a.m. at Springside at Seneca Hill.

The orientation will be conducted by RSVP director, Ellen Wahl.

Springside will also be offering its Soup Lovers Lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.; stay and join us for lunch.

The range of volunteer opportunities runs the gamut of human service and community needs – anything from education to environment; health and nutrition to economic development.

These opportunities will be discussed in an open forum with special guest presentations: Driving Books Home with Terie Delahunt-Dano; and Families and Schools Together (FAST), a mentoring program with Tammy Rodgers.

If you are retired or considering retirement and are wondering, “What is there to do?” or feel that you want to give back, but don’t know where to turn, this session may be for you.

In addition to recruiting, placing and supporting volunteers, RSVP offers Mature Living, a free bi-monthly newsletter with news and information that is national and local in scope and of interest to older Americans.

For more information or to sign up for this or future orientation sessions and/or to receive Mature Living, call the office at 312-2317 or email: [email protected]

Nationally, RSVP reached its 40th anniversary milestone this year; part of a nation-wide network of Senior Corps programs, sponsored by the Corporation for National & Community Service. Each of the 700+ programs in the United States is sponsored by a non-profit agency. In Oswego County RSVP is sponsored by SUNY Oswego and the United Way.
