SAF Plants Tree In Honor Of Crime Victims

OSWEGO, NY – On April 26, as part of National Crime Victims Week and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Services to Aid Families, a division of Oswego County Opportunities, held a tree planting ceremony honoring victims of crime.

This is the ninth year that SAF has planted a tree in honor of victims of crime, in areas around Oswego County.

This year the tree was planted at the Oswego Town Hall in memory of crime victims throughout Oswego County.

SAF’s goal is to plant a tree in every city, village and town in Oswego County, to establish a living sign of hope and support to the many victims of crime within our county.

This year the representatives of SAF were pleased to be joined by local community members, Town of Oswego board members, District Attorney Donald Dodd, and Chief Assistant District Attorney Donald Todd.

SAF would also like to extend a special thank you to Ontario Orchards for donating this year’s tree and to the New York State Crime Victims Board for their donation of this year’s plaque.

SAF is the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Program of Oswego County.

As part of its services SAF is a representative of the New York State Crime Victims Board.

The NYS Crime Victims Board provides compensation for eligible, innocent victims of crime for out of pocket expenses, incurred as a result of the crime.

SAF staff can provide assistance with the completion in filing the CVB application, follow-up case management, advocacy and support throughout the application process.

OCO is a private, non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966 and touches the lives of more than 20,000 people annually.

It is a United Way of Greater Oswego County member agency and offers a variety of services, including – Senior Services, Transportation, Mental Hygiene, Health, Youth, Services to Aid Families, and Children’s.
