FULTON, NY – The city of Fulton and the Fulton Police Benevolent Association representing the Fulton Police Department have reached a mutual agreement for a five-year contract.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the two parties since the previous contract expired on December 31, 2014.
The current contract will be effective retroactive to the day following the previous contract’s expiration, January 1, 2015.
For the year 2015, Fulton Police Department employees will see a one-time raise of $500 and a two-percent increase from the 2014 salary followed by a zero percent increase for the remaining years of the contract including 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
The contract will expire December 31, 2019.
The Fulton Common Council unanimously approved the contract along with a unanimous ratification by the membership of the PBA.
“I feel it’s a good contract,” said Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. “I really don’t think we could do much better than this.”
Fulton Police Investigator and member of Fulton PBA negotiating committee, Michael Curtis said the Fulton PBA is also pleased with the contract agreement.
“We feel it is a good contract for the city and for us. We have a good relationship with the city and we think it will be helpful for the city moving forward. It was the right thing to do given the city’s financial situation, we feel good about it,” Curtis said.
City officials reached a contract agreement with the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) earlier this year as well as a contract agreement with the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) last year.
However, current contracts with the IAFF and the CSEA will expire December 31, 2017, and negotiations will begin soon for the following contracts.
