FPD Awards Kayleigh Hotaling the Robert Parkhurst Memorial Scholarship

FULTON, NY – Kayleigh Hotaling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Hotaling, was presented with the Officer Robert Parkhurst Memorial Scholarship by the Fulton Police Department.

Parkhurst was a Fulton Police Officer who was killed by a drunk driver in 1984.

Just 20-years-old at the time of his death, Parkhurst was involved in a head-on vehicular accident when a 23-year-old Ohio native attempted to pass a car in a no pass zone on Route 49.

He had become a Fulton Police Officer just two weeks before his death.

Parkhurst was a lifetime resident of Fulton, a graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School, a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, and a volunteer teaching swim lessons at the Fulton YMCA.

Each year, the department awards $500 to a high school senior who demonstrates the same qualities as Parkhurst.

This year’s recipient, Kayleigh Hotaling, has been involved in activities and sports throughout her high school tenure.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and has volunteered in HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) since her freshman year.

She helps with can food drives, the Hat and Mittens drive, and in writing letters to our Armed Forces.

She also volunteers at Hope Print, a local non-profit that works with children of refugees and she has worked with Help Feed My Starving Children.

Hotaling was also chosen to be part of LOCY (Leadership Oswego County Youth) and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership training.)

Hotaling has participated in varsity swimming and varsity cross country while maintaining part-time employment in her junior and senior years.
