Locals Abroad: Oswego County Native Retires as Catholic Lawyer in Atlanta

Sue Colussy retired this week from Catholic Charities’ Catholic Legal Services in Atlanta.  For a quarter century, she’s been building a non-profit legal service for the poor.

She grew up in Oswego County, as she noted in her retirement speech, captured by The Georgia Bulletin, the newspaper of the Catholic Diocese there:

Her profession reflects a lifelong involvement with immigrants. She remembers translating for a child on a bus when she was a teenager in upstate New York, using the two years of high school Spanish she knew at the time. Oswego was “an immigrant town,” she said, and “I came from an immigrant family. My mother was a Scottish immigrant.”

Colussy won national honors during her time, particularly for her work with immigrants and their families.
