FULTON, NY – At the city council meeting held November 4, Mayor Ron Woodward Sr. presented a proclamation declaring the 2015 Oswego County Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund Drive Season.
Woodward and the council presented the proclamation to Major James Purvis and advisory board member and Christmas coordinator of Fulton, Nancy Close.
The proclamation declared the Christmas Kettle Fund Drive season from November 13 through December 24.
During this time, the Salvation Army will have numerous locations throughout Oswego County in which people will be able to make a donation to benefit local families and individuals in need.
The Kettle Drive will help raise money to buy food baskets for families and toys for children in need during the holiday season.
Last year, the Christmas Kettle Fund Drive raised $91,000 and the Salvation Army only hopes to improve this year with a goal of $105,000.
All of the money received through this funding effort will be reinvested into the Oswego County community by way of providing food and clothes for those in needs, operating the soup kitchen and food pantry, distributing monthly food boxes, operating expenses and providing breakfast and lunch during the weekdays.
Mayor Woodward and all of the city council members with the exclusion of one have signed up to volunteer at some point throughout the season.
However, the Salvation Army is always in search of more volunteers.
“The Army is in dire need of volunteers this year to make their goal. This is the Army’s largest fundraiser of the year with a 2015 goal of $105,000. The soup kitchens and food pantries in Oswego and Fulton require the largest share of that budget. In 2014, over 400,000 meals were provided to families within the county. All money donated stays within Oswego County to serve those in need of assistance. The upcoming year will be challenging with increased needs within the county and the success of this campaign is critical in funding the operating budget,” said Close
Through this proclamation, Mayor Woodward encouraged all Fulton residents to help support the Salvation Army and this worthy cause.

All of the councilmen have also volunteered to ring the bell as well, with the exception of one.
