Police Reports Detail Nature of Fulton Hate Crime

FULTON, NY – Police reports have released some detail into a recent string of arrests following what Fulton Police are deeming to be a hate crime.

The victim, a black man, was reportedly physically beaten with a board while the alleged perpetrators repeated racial slurs.

Police reports indicate the incident happened on May 27, 2017 at a West Broadway address in the city of Fulton.

The defendants were said to have “aided and acted in concert” with their co-defendants, a total of five men charged with hate crime assault.

The following people were arrested after an investigation by Fulton Police:

• Angelo L. Colon Jr., 21, of 111 W. Broadway Apt. 2, Fulton, NY
• Jordan L. Alvarado, 20, of 822 Oneida St. Apt 1, Fulton, NY
• Stephen M. Hagan, 24, of 30 Best Drive Fulton, NY
• Joshua M. Carpenter, 23, of 8 Airport Road Bldg 8 Apt 2, Fulton, NY
• Dominic D. Diaz, 16, of 212 W. Third St. S., Fulton, MY

Each individual was charged with Assault 2nd as a Hate Crime- Class C Felony, Menacing 2nd as a Hate Crime- Class E Felony, Conspiracy 4th- Class E Felony.

The investigation found the incident was unprovoked.

Available police reports indicate the alleged role played by each individual during the incident.

“The said defendant (Diaz) did strike the victim in the face and body numerous times with his feet, while co-defendant Alvarado struck the victim on the right side of his head with a wooden board, approximately 38 1/2 inches in length by 2 1/2 inches in width. Co-defendant Colon struck the victim with his closed fists while co-defendants Hagan and Carpenter repeatedly kicked the victim  numerous times with their feet,” the report detailed.

The victim did express he was in fear for his life following the actions of the defendants and suffered injuries of head bruising and swelling, rib contusions, and substantial pain to his upper torso and head.

Alvarado, Hagan, Carpenter, and Diaz were arraigned by Fulton City Court Judge Hawthorne following their arrests and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash or $20,000 secure bond.

Currently, Colon is being held awaiting arraignment.
