Oswego County Federal Credit Union (OCFCU), celebrated the grand opening of its Mexico branch office, 5530 Scenic Ave. (Route 3), with a ribbon cutting Dec. 20 hosted by the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce (GOFCC). Participating in the ceremony were, from left: Lisa Gray, GOFCC membership sales and services associate; Jack Proud, Oswego County Legislator; Brian Roach, president, Mexico Chamber of Commerce; Brian Cummings, OCFCU Mexico branch manager; Bill Carhart, OCFCU CEO; Terry Grimshaw, Mexico mayor; Tom Greco, GOFCC board; Ed Schaperjohn, GOFCC board; Jeff Grimshaw, GOFCC board; Linda Thomas-Caster, GOFCC board; and Beth Hilton, executive director, GOFCC.

“Our new office, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, is the actual former railroad depot for the village,” said Carhart.  “ It was built in 1905 by the Oswego and Rome Railroad and last used as a railroad depot in 1940.

“Our goal with this construction was to restore and preserve the depot while making it a modern credit union office for our members. The architectural firm with which we worked has a background in historic preservation. In fact, it’s probably the only financial institution in the county that has a hitching post and watering trough for horses. We installed these services to accommodate our growing number of Mennonite members who visit us in their horse-drawn carriages.”
