OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Fire Investigation Team, have concluded the preliminary investigation of the fatal fire that occurred at 6 Beech Drive in the town of Scriba.
The preliminary cause is determined to be accidental during the food preparation in Apartment B.
Disaster Action Team members of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter are reaching out to four families left homeless by the tragic fire that destroyed the four-family residence at 6 Beech Drive.
Seven adults and eight children resided in the house.
There was one fatality.
The Disaster Action Team (DAT) responds to local residential emergencies and disasters such as fire.
The Disaster Action Team is a group of volunteers trained in administering to the needs of victims of disasters.
The Red Cross typically provides disaster assistance in the form of temporary lodging, vouchers for meals and replacement clothing, assistance with emergency replacement of medications and emotional counseling and support as needed after each disaster.
Volunteers are always needed and those interested should contact the Director of Volunteers at (315) 234-2217 at the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter.
PREVIOUS INFORMATION
The apartment complex consisted of four apartments that were occupied by 16 people at the time the fire was reported at approximately 11:09 p.m. Wednesday.
Fifteen occupants, including seven children, ages six and under, were able to escape the fire.
The one victim has been tentatively identified as Robert P. Rose, age 25, of Apartment B, 6 Beech Drive.
Mr. Rose was reported to have been unable to escape the fire and investigators located a body in the proximity of Mr. Rose’s apartment.
The victim was transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Positive identification of the victim and cause of death results are not expected until possibly next week.
Investigators remain on the scene and are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
