OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego School Board swore in a new member Monday night. And, an incumbent abruptly resigned.
Board member Lynda Sereno resigned her seat on the board following the board’s vote regarding designation of the official newspapers for the district.
The Palladium-Times of Oswego didn’t receive the designation. As of now, the only official newspaper for the Oswego City School District is the Syracuse Newspapers.
“I apologize to the community for tonight letting them know I am going to step away. But I cannot sit on this board and be a part of some of the situations that have been occurring,” she said. “I have been informed by a board member that because of my experience, prior at Red Creek as an administrator, that I talk too much about it, that it would be difficult for the board to want to recommend me for a position as an officer.”
“The second issue that happened this evening that has lead me to believe that I can no longer be viable to this board is that the board of education has used this board to conspire to slap our local paper from freedom of speech. So, I need to step away tonight,” she continued. “I thank the community members. I am so sorry that I cannot continue on with the fight and the vision that I had.”
“You got it all wrong, Lynda,” board vice president Sam Tripp said as she gathered her belongings and exited the board room.
“Yeah, right,” she replied.
During the brief reorganizational meeting, the board swore in Kathleen Allen and Jim Tschudy, the two incumbents who won re-election. Allen will serve a full term; Tschudy will serve out the remainder of Bill Myer’s term.
Also sworn in was new board member Heather DelConte
Allen was appointed president of the board and Tripp the vice president.

Something is definitely wrong here when a good member of the Board has to exercise her conscienc and resign form the Board. The local newspaper has only been doing their duty and reporting the news to the tax payers.
